I’ll write more about it later, but for now just let it be known that my Honours project involves words. Long lists of them, which are being compiled by Nat, Olivia and me, and which will eventually have to be responded to by the unfortunate first year participants as part of their “experiment experience”. We’ve been working on these lists for far too long, but now that there is light at the end of the tunnel I thought I’d SHARE the fruits of our labour with you! Or at least, a small sample.

So with no further ado:

PROVE prove prvoe pzove pjuve claid
TAUGHT taught tuaght teught thyght fliend
HASTE haste hsate hafte hegte groff
SPONGE sponge spnoge spolge spyrge truakt
GENCE gence gecne gexce gehde thigy
FRUG frug frgu fsug fryj hamn

—-

See why I’m going slightly crazy?

(As if that wasn’t enough, I’ve just learnt a new riddle: There is a 9-letter word in the English language from which you can subtract one letter at the time all the way down to 1, but each time be left with a word. What is it?)

Oh yeah, Meredith mentioned you were working with her!

Looks like you’re doing something with orthographic substitution and transposition, but not phonological manipulations?
